If you an Audi owner or an enthusiast no doubt you know about dieselgate. If you happen to drive the one with 3.0 TDI engine you are part of the whole thing. Where are we at the process now? Hopefully you went to Audi’s Claim website and started the process. Heads up, it is a bit of a process to firstly get the amount of money you are owed and then verify your vehicle ownership with the dealership.

Federal Trade Comission requires VW to repair, buyback and compensate the owners of 3.0 TDI engines. Here is the link describing the decision, P

Proposed Settlement:

Generation 1 TDI 3.0 – fix the emissions and offer cash payout, buybacks or early lease termination

Generation 2 TDI 3.0 – fix the emissions, not buybacks offered right now. Their rationale that they can actually fix generation 2 engines to be compliant with the original EPA and CARB certifications. In any case if they can’t find a way to fix it, then buybacks and cash payouts will be offered to Generation 2 owners as well. Currently Generation 2 owners are schedule for repairs after Generation 1 cars have been dealt with.

It is important to note that VW is still proposing the fix that needs to be approved by the government first. One has to wonder if the know how to fix it, why they didn’t design the engine like that right away?

Key Date:

December 20, 2017 – this is by which date the fix needs to be approved by EPA/CARB or Buyback option starts be open for Generation 2 owners.

Bosch Payout

Yes Bosch was dragged into the scandal. Part of their agreement is that they assume no acceptance of guilt or liability. They will pay $327,500,000 to settle the claim. This should be around $1500 per claim.

Takata Bankruptcy is Audi A6 effected?

You might have heard that Takata, a Japanese Air Bag manufacturer filed for a bankruptcy this Sunday. If you don’t want to read the article, Takata manufactured faulty airbags that effected 19 different automakers. A moisture would make their way inside the airbag and when it was time for an airbag to inflate, it would rupture and shrapnel passengers. At least 16 people were killed and 180 injured. Worldwide they recalled around 100 million airbags and 46.2 million in USA alone. According to few sources close to 2/3 of USA recalls are still on the road without the fix. All of those recalls put a tremendous financial pressure on Takata and that is why they are looking for bankruptcy protection.

Here are few questions you might have.

Will Takata still replace airbags if court grants bankruptcy protection?

Yes they will continue to replace airbags, bankruptcy protection gives them a breathing room to not pay the creditors. The speed of replacement might be fairly slow. Most likely they are replacing the are managing the risk and replacing the most dangerous cars at first aka older cards in humid climates. Your dealer should notify you when recall is available for your car.

I bought my Audi in 2017 is the recall just for old cars?

It boggles my mind, how this Takata story been going on for awhile now, but there are 2017 cars that fall under the recall. Specifically Audi TT 2016-2017 and 2017 Audi R8,

Any other Audi effected by recall?

Yes Including Audi A6 Sedan, S6 and Avant from 2005-2011. Better make sure that you airbag is replaces as it simply too dangerous to drive as not only airbag doesn’t protect you, but can also hurt you.

2018 Audi A6 Spy Shots Appeared today

Loyal readers will undoubtedly know that besides working new A8, Audi is also working our beloved A6. The expectation is that Audi will reveal it later this year. It will most likely happen at Frankfurt Motor Show Few sources say it will look a bit different from A4 and A8. Today is the day that multiple publications published Spy shots of Audi A6 on a track.

Even with hardcore camouflage it is easy to see that it is not that different from current models and not that different from A4 and A8. No surprise here as Audi not known for sudden changes. The only difference I could spot is the outline of the lights and they look larger.

The rumor is that there will be three engine choices:

2.0-liter Turbo rated at 252 Horsepower the same engine as on current iteration
2.9-liter V6 rated at 440 Horsepower the same engine as on Porsche Panamera
4.0 liter V8 rated at 550 Horsepower the same engine Audi introduce to Porsche Panamera Turbo this year. This is probably only for RS6 trim

Will that be enough to compete with the current leader in Mid-Size luxury sedan Mercedes-Benz E class? Obviously since you are a fan of Audi A6 you think so and let’s not forget about Quattro which is way better than 4matic.

Thoughts? Are you going to order the new model right away or wait till they work out all of the kinks in the first year?

Audi does not hide its intentions to be number one in the premium segment by 2015. To override the main German rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the brand needs a new product. The main weapon for achieving these goals will be Audi A6. The all-new model is defined by the Germans as the best Audi A6 manageable at all times, and today appeared the first official video of the protagonist – Audi A6 2011.

At the time of the Audi does not provide for future vehicle. Familiar and come close to the company, however, commented that the new A6 will be built on the latest modular platform MLB, and its forms are inspired by those of the e-tron concept and the four-door coupe A7. The model Audi A6 2011 will be equipped with Drive Select system of Audi, which allows the suspension settings, steering wheel and accelerator , a as an option will be available air suspension. The engines will include petrol and diesel volume two liters six-cylinder petrol 2.8 FSI and 3.0 TFSI and two versions of the 3.0 TDI. Later will appear and station wagon (Avant), and the hot version S6, which will be the new V8 4.0-liter. The official premiere of the new Audi A6 to be held in early next year and will be released shortly thereafter.
