Audi: Heaven in China completed
The CEO of Audi Rupert Stadler stated that ages for double-digit growth on the Chinese market for Audi are already in the past.
“The market in China is normal. This year we expect market growth of 8%”, said Stadler at the presentation of the new Audi Q7 in Switzerland. For the company China has been so far the most important market. Last year, the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer sold there almost 579,000 cars and thus realized a growth of 17.7%. Worldwide Audi sales totaled 1.74 million cars.

Stadler does not believe that the normalization of the Chinese market will affect the purpose of the Audi 2020 to become the most successful manufacturer of premium manufacturers, ahead of BMW and Daimler.
“We are not so naive to believe that each year there will be growth in the range of 20 to 25%”, said the manager. Accordingly, normalizing market there is set in the strategy of the Group.
According to Stadler one of the reasons for the cooling of the Chinese market is the anti-corruption campaign of the Chinese government. The times in which some Chinese have bought two or three cars are already gone. However, China remains an important market for the brand. In perspective, according to Stadler year there might be sold to 30 million cars of all brands and manufacturers. Of these, about 9% will be for the premium segment.
To counter the negative trend, Audi will rely on the development of its distribution network and new markets within the country where it is not represented, such as the western parts of mainland China. Stadler expected significant growth from plug-in hybrids and series models Q. Since Chinese is becoming more difficult to be able to obtain a registration number, the company relies on its hybrid cars, with the possibility to go up to 30 km only on electricity included in the category of electric vehicles and therefore are not obliged to participate in the lottery numbers.
